About This Role
The Ram Group, Inc. is looking for a part-time CAD Automation Engineer to improve engineering efficiency across industrial machinery and integrated material handling projects. You will create and maintain automated design workflows, reusable standards, and configuration tools that help reduce repetitive drafting effort and improve design consistency. This role is ideal for an engineer who combines strong CAD systems knowledge with practical automation skills and enjoys improving how technical teams work in a remote, project-driven environment.
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of experience in mechanical design, CAD engineering, design automation, or related engineering work
- Strong hands-on experience with one or more major CAD platforms and associated automation capabilities
- Experience building scripts, rules, templates, macros, or configurators to automate engineering workflows
- Solid understanding of mechanical assemblies, drafting standards, and manufacturing documentation
- Ability to work closely with engineers to translate repetitive design work into scalable automation tools
- Comfort with version control, documentation, and structured engineering processes
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a remote environment
- Experience with industrial equipment, conveyors, machinery, or material handling systems is a strong plus
Your Responsibilities
- Design and implement CAD automation workflows that reduce repetitive modeling and drafting tasks
- Build and maintain templates, libraries, macros, scripts, and configuration tools for engineering use
- Standardize drawing outputs, naming conventions, and reusable design components across projects
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify high-value opportunities for automation and process improvement
- Support generation of fabrication drawings, BOM-related outputs, and documentation workflows where applicable
- Troubleshoot CAD workflow issues and improve reliability, usability, and adoption of automation tools
- Document automation logic, standards, and internal best practices for ongoing team use
- Help improve engineering throughput, consistency, and quality across active customer projects
