About This Role
The Ram Group, Inc. is seeking a part-time Applications Engineer to help design and support integrated systems for wood scrap processing, material handling, and dust collection. You will work directly with sales, customers, and vendors to translate real plant requirements into engineered solutions that incorporate grinders, conveyors, silos, and safety systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys application-level problem-solving, working from layouts and data to create practical, reliable systems for industrial environments.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering field, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in applications engineering, system design, or project engineering for industrial equipment or material handling
- Ability to interpret plant layouts, P&IDs, and basic CAD drawings
- Familiarity with woodworking, bulk material handling, dust collection, or related systems is strongly preferred
- Strong analytical skills and ability to balance technical constraints with real-world customer needs
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with sales teams and customers
- Comfortable working remotely and managing engineering work asynchronously with distributed teams
- Experience preparing technical proposals, equipment lists, and basic system documentation
Your Responsibilities
- Review customer requirements, site information, and plant layouts to define feasible system concepts
- Select and size equipment such as grinders, conveyors, fans, filters, silos, and spark detection components
- Develop preliminary layouts, system descriptions, and technical proposals in collaboration with sales
- Support cost estimates and work with vendors to refine equipment selections and options
- Provide technical input during customer calls, presentations, and follow-up discussions
- Collaborate with internal teams on project handoff from proposal to execution and commissioning
- Assist with troubleshooting and optimization of existing systems as needed
- Contribute to internal standards, design guidelines, and reusable solution templates
